I'm a railroad engineer and have never sewn before, but wanted to repair some work clothes. I knew I wanted a machine that would be EASY TO USE, do more than just straight or zigzag stitching, have a good reputation, and not cost a lot of money. I did a lot of research and decided upon this Brother CP7500, and I'm sure glad I did. It is so easy to use I can't believe it--20 minutes after it arrived I was repairing my jacket. The instructions are easy to understand (there are even diagrams on the machine) and make it easy to wind bobbins, thread the machine, and to sew different stitches--just pick one and the computer sets everything up. Stitch settings are easily adjustable, and this machine is very quiet and smooth.
This sewing machine has several features that make it easy to use, even for me, but the ones I like the most are:
1. slider control for speed--super slow to super fast.
2. "automatic" threader--line up the thread, push the lever, and the needle is threaded.
3. drop-in bobbin with see-thru lid--just drop it in, follow the arrows and go.
I have sewn (repaired) flannel shirts, nylon jacket, denim jacket, and cotton duck overalls--and not had any problems with thread tension, threads bunching up, or jams. I am very pleased with this Brother CP7500 and would recommend it to my friends.

If you like to sew quilts, consider this machine. Very easy to learn and use. I used a very basic machine for years and thought that was just fine. But after using this machine I realize how easier my crafting would have been. Self threading, bobbin that you can see, more than enough stitch options, quiet, great accessories for quilting, cover -- I could go on and on. But truly, a great machine at a very good price. You won't be disappointed.
